Future-Edge Therapy

Future-Edge Therapy is a specialist trauma recovery practice, working with adults, children, and families affected by trauma, anxiety, grief, and long-standing nervous system overwhelm.

Our work is grounded in neuroscience and the brain–body system. We exist to support recovery at the level where trauma is encoded, not simply to help people cope with symptoms, but to guide processes that allow genuine resolution over time.

Everything we do is shaped by safety, structure, and responsibility.

Why We Built This Practice

Future-Edge Therapy was created in response to a pattern we saw repeatedly.

Many people seeking support had already engaged in therapy or other forms of help. They understood their experiences and had developed insight and coping strategies, yet their bodies and nervous systems continued to react as if the threat were still present.

We recognised a gap between understanding trauma and resolving it.

This practice exists to work directly with that gap. By addressing how trauma is held across the brain, nervous system, and body and by working with these systems together, in the right sequence, recovery can move beyond management and towards lasting change.

Founders & Directors

Future-Edge Therapy was co-founded and is jointly directed by Bonita Ackerman du Preez and Claire Ackerman du Preez.

Together, they bring decades of experience across trauma recovery, leadership, safeguarding, and systems development. The practice was shaped at the intersection of therapeutic work and operational responsibility – informed by frontline environments, education, the police service, and extensive experience supporting people affected by trauma.

This combined perspective underpins the structure, ethics, and standards that guide Future-Edge Therapy today.

Bonita Ackerman du Preez

Co-Founder & Director | Trauma Recovery Specialist

Bonita leads the trauma recovery and practitioner-facing work within Future-Edge Therapy, drawing on extensive professional training and applied practice. Her focus is on supporting clients through structured, neuroscience-informed recovery processes that prioritise nervous system regulation, safety, and integration.

She is recognised for her calm, grounded approach and her ability to work with complex trauma patterns in a way that is contained, ethical, and sustainable, particularly where people have previously engaged in therapy but continue to feel stuck.

Bonita’s work is grounded in neuroscience and informed by extensive professional training alongside many years of applied practice. Rather than relying on isolated techniques, she works within a structured trauma-recovery framework designed to support resolution over time.

Bonita is one of the original developers of the Integrated Therapy System™, which brings together established trauma therapies within a coherent, safety-led process. This framework underpins all therapeutic work delivered at Future-Edge Therapy.

Alongside her professional background, Bonita brings lived experience that informs her values-led, responsible approach to trauma recovery work.
