Most people know what PTSD stands for but a lot of people don’t recognise it in themselves. It doesn’t always look like flashbacks or nightmares, though it can. Sometimes it’s more like a constant low-level tension you can’t switch off, or avoiding certain places, people or situations without fully understanding why. If any of that sounds familiar, PTSD counselling in Milton Keynes might be worth looking into.
At Future Edge Therapy we work with people who are living with the effects of trauma, sometimes years or even decades after the event. We see clients from Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire regularly, either in person at our Bedford Heights practice or online.
PTSD shows up differently for different people. Some people experience it intensely, with intrusive memories and panic responses. Others describe it as a kind of numbness, a disconnect from life that they can’t quite explain. Both are valid and both are treatable.
Common signs include difficulty sleeping, feeling easily startled, emotional detachment, irritability and a sense that you’re never fully relaxed. A lot of people manage to function day to day and still be seriously affected. You don’t have to be at crisis point to deserve support.
We don’t use a one-size approach.
PTSD is complex and what helps one person won’t always help another. Our Integrated Therapy System™ draws on several evidence-based methods depending on what’s going on for you.
EMDR and FLASH EMDR are particularly effective for PTSD. They work by helping the brain reprocess traumatic memories so they lose some of their charge. It’s not about forgetting what happened. It’s about changing how your system responds to it.
We also use Brainspotting, which works directly with the nervous system, and IEMT and Kinetic Shift for clearing emotional blocks that have built up over time. Where it’s useful, we bring in hypnotherapy and NLP to support longer term change at a subconscious level.
Alongside the therapy itself, our TheraCoachPro® framework helps you take that progress into your actual life. Sessions are one thing. What happens between them and after them matters too.
We don’t rush people. The first stage is always about understanding your history, your symptoms and what you want from the process. From there we put together an approach that fits you specifically.
A lot of clients come to us having already tried counselling or therapy that didn’t get them very far. That’s more common than you’d think and it’s not a reflection on you. Some approaches just don’t go deep enough with trauma. However ours is designed to.
Our practice is based at Bedford Heights in Bedfordshire. From Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire it’s a straightforward drive, usually around 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic, mostly along the A422. We also offer fully remote sessions if travelling doesn’t suit you right now.
If you think you might be dealing with PTSD and you’re not sure where to start, just get in touch. There’s no obligation in having an initial conversation and we’ll always be honest with you about whether we think we can help.
